
Matt Higgins

Matt Higgins is Manager of Geodesy and Positioning in the Queensland Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy. He is also President of the Australian based IGNSS Association and a Member of Australia’s National Positioning Infrastructure Advisory Board. Matt has been appointed by the NASA Administrator to the U.S. Position, Navigation and Timing Advisory Board, which was established under a Presidential policy directive to advise the U.S. Government on GPS-related policy, planning and funding issues. He has also been a Co-Chair of a Working Group of the United Nations International Committee on GNSS. He is a past Vice President and current Honorary Member of the International Federation of Surveyors and an Honorary Fellow of Australia’s Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute.

A1: Using advanced technologies and processes to improve the safety, environmental and societal impacts of travel.
Q2: Please provide a short quote about why you are excited about participating at the ITS Asia Pacific Forum on Intelligent Transport Systems 2020?
A2: As an expert in positioning and spatial data I am looking forward to better understanding the growing number and breadth of ITS applications and how my sector can help improve their effectiveness and reliability.
Q3: Where do you see the Intelligent Transport industry in the next 5 to 10 years?
A3: We will hopefully see the current focus on improving technologies and services in vehicles and platforms shifting to a more mature focus on the broader improvements across society that the technology will enable.
