This year’s theme: “Cities around the world must find innovative ways to improve mobility that mitigates congestion while addressing vulnerable users (elderly, pedestrians, disabled, cyclists, etc.). Design an inclusive mobility model for an urban environment in your home or university town.”
Designed for College and University students of various disciplines who hold an interest in mobility and technology, the Global Challenge recruits teams of students from around the world to solve a mobility challenge in hopes of advancing to the final round in Los Angeles, California. The 2020 challenge is hosted by ITS America, ERTICO, and ITS Asia-Pacific.
There will be three semi-final competitions held globally; one in each region – Europe, Asia-Pacific, and North America. There will be one winning team selected from each region; and those winners will travel to the 2020 ITS World Congress in Los Angeles to compete in the World Championship Olympic Challenge at the ITS World Congress taking place October 4 – 8, 2020 in Los Angeles, California.
Asia-Pacific Emerging Leaders teams are invited to submit an entry to their local ITS Association prior to submission close on March 31. Each ITS Asia Pacific Association will select one nomination each for the Regional Final. ITS Asia Pacific is hosting the Regional Final at the 17th ITS Asia Pacific Forum in May 2020.
At the Regional Final judges will select one winning team to be the Asia-Pacific finalist for the Global Challenge in Los Angeles at the ITS World Congress 2020 where 3 – 5 team members are invited to participate. The winning team from Asia-Pacific region will receive USD5,000.00 to assist with their travel and participation in the World Congress in Los Angeles thanks to the support of ITS Asia Pacific and the member ITS Associations with the team encouraged to seek additional support from the local ITS industry to assist with any additional team travel and accommodation costs.
